For Smenners, it was just another evening, walking his cat Pagmie at 4 P.M. before heading out to work on his night shifts. Life was just the usual for him, with a little hiccup every now and then, but hey, Smenners was alright with it. He loved the peace and the quiet.

But then, all of that was about to change.

Forever.

You know what they say—curiosity catapulted the cat into an alternate reality.

That's kind of exactly what happened except that the one catapulted was a cat-wannabe.

The sun was beginning her descent beyond the horizon, but she desperately clinged onto the sky, trying to catch every glimpse of Smenners as she possibly could. Every second, passed she blushed harder and harder and the sky was a mess of crimson hues.

Smenners, blissfully unaware, walked into a barely visible portal around the corner of the street.

"Meow", said Pagmie.

Smenners didn't understand what happened at first. "Pagmie?", he asked. No response. He got a little tense with the complete, inky blackness surrounding him, but then again, he just saw it as a mere annoyance.

And then, he noticed a ray of light, the faintest glimmer of it, shining through a crack in the void.

Smenners shrugged, and cautiously walked towards it. Pretending that he was nervous, he put a finger through the crack.

Nothing.

"Secret entrance, woohoo!", he giggled. "Okay then. So be it!"

He stuck out his whole arm first. Nothing peculiar than just a whiff of fresh coolness. He could swore he heard a familiar chuckle.

"Unghgh", he said, while crawling into the crack, which ridiculously widened the more body mass Smenners put through. "Someone better be extremely shocked by this.. unhhhgh.. hahah..", he muttered, pretending to be breathless.

And finally, he popped out into existence. Strangely enough, he saw, out of the corner of his eyes, someone vaguely familiar-looking standing in front, with a very familiar expression.

"Are you human?", came a very, very familiar voice, the voice of the man standing in front of him. Smenners was kind of surprised, but of course, he realized he was just acting surprised.

"In what way?", Smenners replied, carefully trying to figure out how to get to work on time, with this mess happening and all. But he glanced at the man, was eerily exactly as tall as Smenners as well, and even seemed dressed in similar colours. Same hair, same indifference in his voice.

"What do you mean?", the man replied coldly.

"I meant in what way did you mean I was human?", Smenners stood straight, uncovering his face, looking up and noticing that it's early in the morning.

"Huh, you look just like me. Cool", the man said.

"Oh, you look like me too. Cool", Smenners said in reply to the man who looked just like Smenners. He then looked at the cat perched up on the man's shoulder, "Hey Pagmie."

"Pagmie?", the man asked, emotionlessly.

"Yeah, my—our cat?", Smenners replied.

"Her name's Magpie", said the man. "Your cat's name is Pagmie?"

"Yeah, of course her name is Pagmie. Why would it be anything else?", Smenners retorted.

"It would be something else, that is Magpie, here, sir. What's your name, Bnessers?", the man chuckled a bit too loudly, eerily familiar to how Smenners would have chuckled if he were the one making that joke.

"Smenners. It does seem to be a strange universe, this one of yours", said Smenners, hinting a bit of non-existent interest.

The man with the cat pondered for a moment. "Smenners.. okay. I'm Snebbers. Good to meet someone from another parallel universe. Anyway, I am getting late for work, so please excuse me", Snebbers said, and he turned around and started walking away.

"Meow", said Magpie.

"Wait, what am I supposed to do then?", said Smenners. You'd think he was panicking, but you'd be wrong. He definitely wasn't. "I'm supposed report to work too, Snebbers. How do I report to work today? I didn't even take my phone! What will I... Oh well, wait, yeah, I know. Not your problem, Snebbers. Well, not my problem either."

Smenners blankly stared at Snebbers, who was far enough that he couldn't have heard what Smenners had said. He watched for a while, the peculiar sight of a man walking along the streets, at a crisp, slightly misty dawn, with a sturdy cat sitting upright on his shoulders, swaying with his each step.

"This game sure is ridiculous..", he chuckled to himself, and Smenners started instinctively walking towards his work site. As he moved a couple of steps, he heard faint purring.

He turned back to take a look, only to be greeted by Pagmie.

"Meow!", said Smenners, with a little bit of excitement, just a teeny tiny bit. He quickly shrugged it off, "Did you follow meow? Good meow. Meow!"

"Thank you, father. Now give me warmth I rightfully deserve, for my paws are cold, and so is my heart, by the moments we spent realities apart, father. I command you to hold me, father. Father. Father. Father..", Pagmie replied.

Lol I got a weird sense of deja vu while reading this, before I realised this is from Smenner's perspective with the added Pagmie anecdote
